Completed in 2005, the state-of-the-art Hoch-Shanahan Dining Commons features open exhibition kitchen areas, seating for nearly 500, five private dining rooms and outside patio areas. The building, named for trustees Richmond J. Hoch ’63 and his wife, Diane, and R. Michael Shanahan and his wife, Mary, is certified under LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) guidelines. It is home to the Aviation Room, which celebrates the college’s former Bates Aeronatucs Program and its graduates.

For those looking to just hang out and grab a quick snack, Jay’s Place is a late-night lounge that has fast become the place to meet at Harvey Mudd College. The popular eatery was named for Jay Wolkin ’99, a fun-loving, exuberant engineering major who died in an airplane crash shortly before he was to graduate from HMC.
