Student Government

The Associated Students of Harvey Mudd College (ASHMC) has set up a government to represent students to the faculty, administration and the community. This government is delineated in the ASHMC Constitution and Bylaws.

The executive body of ASHMC is the Student Council. The Council consists of the president, treasurer, two vice presidents, nine residence hall presidents, four committee chairs and the class presidents. The Student Council is responsible for collecting student dues, chartering and allocating money to student organizations, supervising committees and representing the student body as a whole.

The major committees of the student government are the Committee for Activities Planning (CAP), Social Committee, Athletics Committee, the Food Committee and Dormitory Affairs Committee (DAC). All are composed of representatives from each residence hall. The Social Committee approves, schedules and funds HMC and 5-College parties and activities. The Athletics Committee manages the intramural sports program and puts on special events and tournaments during the year. The Food Committee works with the managers of Dining Services to improve the dining experience in Hoch-Shanahan. The Dormitory Affairs Committee is responsible for organizing student governance and regulations in the residence halls; the nine hall presidents serve on this committee.

ASHMC Council maintains an extensive historical file of ASHMC and other student activities since the founding of the College. Contact the ASHMC President for more information.
